Beautiful kit. A very useful continuously variable loudness control too!

Buy it if you really need the feature set: Yamaha's integrated features (YPAO, variable loudness, phono, single‑box simplicity).

Otherwise maybe consider a WiiM Pro Plus used as an analog source that already has a far better‑measuring DAC section than what you'd reasonably expect inside a mid‑priced stereo receiver. Add a clean Class D power amp and you're comfortably exceeding what the R‑N800A's integrated DAC+amp is likely doing on the bench, for cheaper than 800$. Rather put the money towards more resolving speakers.

So the trade is convenience/features vs raw measured performance/pricing.

Sweet unit with a nice retro vibe. It can also be used as a pre-amp if power requirements change.
