Could you take out the drive? Is it a SATA drive internally?

You can, and it is.
But you should definitely not buy at this price. I highly recommend you check past deals on these. $10-$12/TB is the W; $15 is okay in a pinch; $20+ is crazy bad.

Picked up 2x 20TB WD NAS RED for $20.5/TB via Microcenter. Cheaper than the one I returned before Xmas.

It's a terrible deal, but it's probably going to be years before we see good pricing again. WD has already announced they've pre-sold all of their 2026 production and are already selling 27/28 production. Mechanical drives aren't safe from what's going on. Glad I bought some last BF. Didn't really need it, but the deals were good.

Right. This is outrageous to see as I followed prices on new and used drives from 2021 - 2023. There were times when prices dropped to below $10/tb on reliable, refurbished drives, and even farther below that when buying from individuals on tech-y pages.
The price increase(s) is... worrying.

How in the world is this a "slick deal" even with today's crazy high hard drive prices? This appears to be Best Buy's normal (high) price for the drive since they don't indicate any sort of "Save" like they do, at time of this posting, with the 8TB Easystore ($174.99 - Save $15) and 20GB Easystore ($399.99 - Save $40). Heck if you are going to drop $389.99 for 18TB just spend the extra $10 for the 20GB version since you're getting a slightly better (but still bad) per TB deal.
$389.99/18 = 21.66
$399.99/20 = 19.99

Wow, thanks for the info. I had not seen that recent announcement. I guess it's back to tracking serverpartdeals and shuckstop 🙄
