i remember last year, people who did pre-order and mailed in their trade-in's were having issues with getting trade-in credit to show on their account, even after 2-3 months. Think i'm gonna go with trade-in at store again for this year.

So the requirement of unlocking the device is use the phone plan for 60 days, right? we can active the phone anytime and use it for 60 days, it does not have to be the 60 days right after purchase?
I have not done it this year (since it has not been 60 days) but I can tell you in previous years that after 60 days you just contact Spectrum and they can unlock the device as long as your plan is still active and the device is paid off.

So activate the first phone then do another purchase/trade-in on the line and the new phone becomes the device on the plan. Then after 60 days you can request the unlock. The thing that I am saying that I am not sure of is if you can request unlock of the first device after 60 days if you have not switched back to the device on the line. So you might have to unlock the second device first and then switch back to the first.

But I think you might not have to switch back and can just unlock right after 60 days because some people here have reported doing tons of trade-ins and I am assuming they did not switch back. If they see this conversation then they can chime in and report.

Nothing wrong with that, I just mean from a logistical standpoint the S26 is likely to lose significantly more value over the next year than iPhone 11 or Pixel 6 Pro (which already have pretty low trade-in value on Assurant). For instance, the S25 trade-in value through Assurant is only around $180 right now which is quite a bit less than you could get selling it elsewhere (unless it is in poor physical shape).

So in terms of optimization you would probably be better off selling your S26 next year through another buyer (not Assurant) and trading-in either the iPhone 11 or Pixel 6 Pro instead of trading-in the S26 next year for an S27.

If you do not plan on doing any of this again next year then what you are describing makes sense if you want to get some more S26s for a couple hundred bucks each. Otherwise if you do not feel like going through all this multiple times you can just sell the iPhone 11/Pixel 6 Pro elsewhere.
So trade in one of the iPhone 11 or the Pixel 6 Pro for the S26 this year and hold on to the other one until next year and trade it in for the S27? And sell the S26 from the first trade-in outside of Spectrum?
Is that what you are recommending?

For me I do not think there is enough of return for doing a second trade-in with the iPhone 11/Pixel 6 Pro to make it worthwhile. But if you do the math and think it is worthwhile then go for. There is just extra time/cost and uncertainty about where S26 resell value will be in a couple of months.

If I was planning to use the S26 as my primary device, I probably would just sell either the iPhone 11 or Pixel 6 Pro elsewhere this year (not doing another trade-in) and keep the other one of them as a back-up device and for trade-in next year if you are going to want the S27. Then sell the S26 elsewhere next year.

What you are proposing is not wrong either, we are not talking about huge differences of money in the end anyway with just few devices.

My only consideration is that those two devices are pretty old and I am not sure if they'll be worth the same value next year. I know with AT&T/T-Mobile, they weren't worth much when I was looking at using them for the iPhone 16 Pro last year. But I have internet with Spectrum this year and it looks like they have a free line offer, so I was thinking of taking advantage of that and using those old phones.
My s21+ worth $41 last year and $4 this year.

Versus the S25 which went down from around $400 to under $200 over the past year for Assurant. That is just the factor that I am telling people to take into account is that the S26s are going to be bleeding value at a much higher rate and to factor that in especially if doing this deal just because rather than actual need of device.

You can definitely get more than $4 for the S21+ selling it outside of Assurant too and people need to factor that difference in also to their net cost when deciding if all of this is worthwhile trying to make a buck from all of this. Assurant for Spectrum gives you bottom prices since they give the same price no matter what condition or lock status as long as it still works.

Can an existing user add a new line, then cancel it after a few days and use the phone on their original line?

I think the question is whether they will allow the phone to be unlocked after 60 days if you cancel the line that it was originally purchased on before the 60 days. Might not matter if you plan to use the phone with Spectrum and/or trade-in the phone next year through Spectrum but otherwise could be a concern.

Thank you! I was confused by the deal title "Extra $700 Off your Pre-Order of a Samsung Galaxy S26 Series Phones when you Trade in Your Eligible Phone and Activate a new Spectrum Mobile Line"
This $700 additional bonus deal seems too good to be true, it implies existing customers can upgrade for free every year.
BTW: The Samsung A16 deal on the front page seems ideal for trade-in while keeping the current phone as a backup.

As @lou2004 mentioned, this $700 bonus deal is available to existing customers by upgrading existing lines, though the main post says Activate a new Spectrum Mobile Line

Existing customers can upgrade as much as they want as long as the device is paid off. Although it is not "free" because cost of S26 base is $899.99 so even with the credit you are looking at $199 + tax, the past few years the S24/S25 were $799.99 with the same $700 trade-in bonus.

I think for unlocking, it needs to be paid off and active for 60 days, most importantly they check if you are original owner of the phone or not, sometimes they ask for the order number to validate.

No one has officially tried it yet as I've been looking for the same answer. I have an appointment in store on Wednesday so I'll try it and report back.
Please report back if you find an answer sooner
I checked in the store today.
Rep said I need to add 2 lines and at least 1 has to be a port in. Did not actually try it though.
Could be different for other accounts as the employee mentioned a promo number.
