Bought one a few days ago and installed it easily. It was pretty straightforward, no instructions needed. The fan is very light weight and "feels"cheaply made but seems to be decent quality. Very quiet, and being DC it gets up to pretty high speed. The light has three color temperatures with a dimmer. It was good for an extra room and functional. I'm pretty happy with the purchase.

Does this fan REQUIRE you to use the remote, or will normal on/off switches at the wall still control it?

You can use a light switch and it will remember the last setting when switched on.

I bought a different brand for cheaper and it's the same thing. Majority of these low profile fans are just rebranded. Mine has the same generic remote without the logo

does it turn on by light switch or does it need the remote to turn on?

My understanding of DC fans is that you cannot use a light switch as light switches use AC power, not DC. If you want to use a light switch you need to install a transformer to convert the power from DC to AC. What light switch should one use to control a DC powered fan?
EDIT: so after some research I believe you can turn the power on/off for the fan from the light switch but you cannot control either the fan or the light separately, you would need to use the remote for that.

The light can be switch operated but the fan speed setting is remote only. Unit will remember the last setting the remote was set to and the switch can turn it on and off at that setting. Both can be operated on the remote. There is only one power "hot" wire for the whole unit.

These things come with built in converters.
