I own a few of these. At $12 this is a steal. They sound great and are really well built. I use them to record ambient noise outside like rain and rivers and it's really nice to have a cheap, great sounding mic that I don't have to worry too much about.
Also great for Teams meetings, twitch, and discord.

not to get nitpicky but this mic has a cardioid polar pattern, meaning it's better for directional sources like vocals (since it blocks out everything behind it). for ambient/nature recordings you'd ideally want an omnidirectional pattern

Do I need to be real close to the mic or can it be set on the desk. Worried about not picking up the voice if its on the desk

You can hear 'wind' noise easy. Not the best mic. Cheap starter mic for beginners, yes. But do not expect pro level sound.

It's ok with picking voice while set on desk. It will also pick some background sounds as well, as any condenser mic will do. It's a decent USB mic, probably the best you can buy for $12.

its turtle beach. im still waiting for the xlr to go on sale for cheap. these are the biggest value mic's by a longshot.
Current Amazon price for King Bee II is $127, which is lower than initial MSRP of $170 or so, and even at MSRP it was highly praised as one of the best value microphones, some reviewers stating that to do better you have to pay more than a grand. I've bought mine new from ebay for $90 shipped with tax, very happy with it.

Just a side note: king bee is an XLR mic that requires separate audio interface with shadow power, so if somebody is looking to elevate their Teams meetings to a new level, it will require more than just a mic. I have both and use bumblebee for work meetings because it has mute button on the mic and I don't need to turn on shadow power on audio interface for it to work.

For Teams calls, do you have to pair it with separate external audio speakers or headphones? I'm wondering if the separation will cause problems with echoes/feedback on the call.
The mic has a 2.5mm plug on the bottom and acts as a usb based audio output (so you can monitor what the mic is picking up plus whatever sounds are coming from the pc)
That being said, i have it sitting on my desk right next to the speakers i use for teams calls, and i do not use a headset. When listening back recordings, theres no sound that comes from the speakers that gets picked back up in the call. I do have 'smart listening' or whatever the voice learning thing is called enabled, just to be clear.

I put mine directly in front of a speaker and I get no echo or feedback in teams. No headphones necessary

I use it for teams calls and my computer is used as the speaker and the mic is next to it and I have had no issues for the last 6 months of owning them
