I bought a 2TB Intel drive (granted it was internal) which is double for less than half this price. 400% price increase. Ya, no thanks!

There's been a global memory chip crisis so if you're not aware of it now, just be aware that prices like this are the norm now.

I don't know the "crisis" is an accurate term, but certainly for single user type end users prices have gone up pretty significantly over the last, what, 6-8 months.
