Those were the Ln1301 routers. Comparable to the mx4200 but have more ram. I have 3. They are tri-band where this in only dual-band. This does have a higher ultimate speed, so splitting the 5ghz to mesh would likely be a very similar experience. This is a solid price if you want to setup a solid mesh for cheap.

Pulled from an old Woot post on the these routers:

AX5300 is a speed rating based on Wi-Fi 6 standard; if two different devices follow the same standard and have the same antenna setup (to oversimplify), then the AX number is exactly the same, even if devices have different ports and different chipset/CPU/RAM/ROM/GigE/USB/software/drivers, even if such changes mean that real-life performance would be different;
MX5300 device has 4-core CPU, 1024MB RAM, 5x GigE, 1x USB3;
MX5500 device has 2-core CPU; 512MB RAM, 4x GigE, 0x USB;
MX4300 (LN1301) had 4-core CPU; 2048MB RAM; 4x GigE, 1x USB3;
MX55EC3 is presumed to be a BestBuy SKU for 3x MX5500;
MX55EC3-RM2 is Linksys Certified Refurbished;

Yes. You typically want a tri-band to wirelessly back haul the mesh but these can do 4800mbps 4x4. So splitting that in half would still be 2400mbps, or similar performance to the tri-band models.

I've been running a set of MX2000 series I bought for $25 at a Bargain Hunt for 2 years. Needs rebooting every 60 days, but no other complaints.
I bought these, I can upgrade, or add them to the wired back haul.

Then this post MX5503 is essentially same as that AX5300, which is $5 lower?

I bought the AX5300 for 30 2 of them. I have some in my house mixed with the VELOP AC1300 mesh systems. The AC1300 2 broke already but so far these last time held up so I will buy 2 more sets just as spare and to expand my network. I live in very populated area so mesh is a must.

Thanks for the post I have been waiting for this deal!

If these are anything as good as my 4 x MX4300 I got on Woot that run OpenWRT as wired access points with a pfSense firewall, then this is a great deal.

No, that's ideal use for these. Clients will only use 2 of the 3 bands on Wifi 6 anyway.

I currently have some Google Nest Wifi routers and an AP. When I plug the AP in the network becomes unstable. Outside of that, the speeds are not very good either and coverage is meh. I'm wondering if it would be worth trying this Linksys system out just to see...

I have 2 of the MX4300s from last year's deal and have them running DD-WRT. They are very stable and I got mesh working as well, however I'm still trying to get wireless roaming to work properly. As a heads-up, if you intend to try out mesh and roaming on these, I'd start with OpenWRT first, as that seems to have better support/guides on how to do it.

I have a Google Nest WiFi and it's the biggest piece of sh*t I've ever owned. The software alone is so bad on that thing, it becomes crippled the minute internet is out.

I swapped it out for an MX4300 with OpenWRT. Runs rock solid. I don't know about these though. They're also refurb so that puts me off.
