I like Klein Tool's NCV Testers - the little built-in flashlight is cool.I'd probably spring for a deal that has more utility than just the accompanying outlet tester.

Something like this NCV test and DVM bundle - you can do much, much more for a little additional $.

This non-contact voltage tester isn't very reliable or durable. After using it a few times, it might not turn on right or detect live circuits accurately.

My experience is much different over many years with my Klein. It works really well once you understand the false positives in some cases (dead line but will still have an alert -- completely different alert from a live wire though). It's durable and easy to use. Maybe they've changed them since I bought mine (probably 10 years ago), but I'm a big fan -- I use it for the flashlight frequently because it's very convenient (even when not doing electrical work).

Completely different tool for a different purpose. Any decent electrician will have both. I'll have a half dozen outlets tested with the plug tester before you untangle those leads and find the correct setting. I've never seen a multimeter that will trip the GFCI either. I've also never been impressed with Klein or Greenlee multimeters. They are rebranded Chinese junk. Better off buying a used Fluke. This is from the standpoint of a commercial electrician. If you want some homeowner tools ignore everything I said.
