Community Reviews

This TCL 55 inch QLED is a budget 4K Google TV that stands out for strong value, decent picture and brightness, and support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The price has also shown up at $223 in store and online, below the posted $248. Motion handling is only average, and the built in Google TV interface gets criticized as slow and cluttered compared with Roku. Reliability concerns also come up, including software lockups and hard to fix failures over time. A solid low cost media room option if the tradeoffs are acceptable.

  • The TV can deliver Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos performance that works well for media-room viewing after setup.

  • The picture and brightness can come across as decent for everyday viewing, making it a workable option in a pinch.

  • The built-in Google TV experience can be acceptable when paired with a custom Chrome book and used for streaming and YouTube.

  • The Google TV interface can feel slow and annoying, with repeated attempts to load Google Play Store content.

  • The refresh-rate expectation can be a drawback because the deal would feel better if the model offered 120Hz instead of 60Hz.

  • The price shown during checkout can differ from the deal post, with online ordering showing $223 instead of $248.

  • The TV can face serious reliability issues, including a software death loop within about three years and warranty or return friction on Walmart-specific SKUs.

I wonder if the wife will approve this purchase. Our BF 2024 (or was it 2023) 55" Philips google TV is now acting up; have to unplug once a week or so.

We have about seven Tvs - 2 are google and the rest roku. Consensus is that roku just works without issue. Everyone hates the google interface. Frankly is annoying, slow connections, always attempting to load google play store junk that no one wants/needs when just looking to watch tv, goto YT or use it for PS5. I would never buy another google tv if i can avoid it - over complicates something that should be simple at this point.

I know we are veering off topic but +1 for Roku here. I've got a 55" TCL Roku that I would gladly rebuy.

Confirmed in-store, too! $223 Had an old Vizio die two days ago, so this is perfect timing.

Can you bypass the Google TV and use Roku on it? Or will you be forced to use the Google TV interface to access the Roku?

You would need a Roku stick or similar and plug into an input
