I know we are veering off topic but +1 for Roku here. I've got a 55" TCL Roku that I would gladly rebuy.

TCL Roku sucks ass. Mine has a banner on all the time to disconnect USB power to the Roku device. There is no USB - it's integrated, which means the TV is trash. Apparently this happens a LOT. google it. Piece of crap.

I wonder if the wife will approve this purchase. Our BF 2024 (or was it 2023) 55" Philips google TV is now acting up; have to unplug once a week or so.
Keep buying cheap junk TVs like this, and you'll keep having to replace them every 1-3 years.

Eyeballing this to replace my parents 43" Philips TV. Absolute junk. Worst TV I have ever watched, constantly loses wi-fi connectivity for no reason, needs reboots just to play any of the apps etc. Terrible device. I would personally avoid Philips now as it seems they just licensed the name and the product is junk.

Tcl makes tvs that are ok. The picture and brightness are decent, but motion tracking is not fantastic. It's a nice tv in a pinch, but don't expect a sony bravia

There is your problem, they using tv processor apps, get a streaming stick.

I think it's just luck of the draw, some tv's are just a few bad lemons in the batch. I bought a cheap never heard of brand from walmart around 2013, Cielo 46" 3d tv 60hz, and it is what I am still using right now. About 2 years ago the upper right corner went dim but is unnoticable while watching a movie, but while browsing the internet with my pc hooked to it it is very noticable. It's about time to replace it soon so I'm keeping an eye out for a tv deal.

Had issues with the sticks as well, but definitely better than what we've been experiencing with the Philips TV. The TCL Roku TV I have works 1000 times better than the Philips.

I'm looking to get a new tv to replace an old 40" Samsung 1080p, was thinking this one or the 50" Phillips 50PUG7675/F7 ( https://slickdeals.net/f/19261549 )
I want it to look good as it is going to be my primary TV for watching netlfix and playing the occcasional Switch 2 or PS4 game but also it's for an apartment I don't plan in living forever in (small space so much bigger than a 55" wouldn't make too much sense). I'm trying to stay aorund this $250 price range but of course want the best bang for my buck. HELP ME SLICKDEALERS!!

Bought so many of these over the years. All sizes. Price is always too good too beat. BUT:
1) Failure rate within 3 years is nearly 100%. Always seems to be a software death loop. Had some success with warranty, but it was a pain.
2) The Walmart ones (usually) have their own sku, so you can't price match, or exchange, or even return to TCL for support sometimes. Just buyer beware. For the price, though...

We have about seven Tvs - 2 are google and the rest roku. Consensus is that roku just works without issue. Everyone hates the google interface. Frankly is annoying, slow connections, always attempting to load google play store junk that no one wants/needs when just looking to watch tv, goto YT or use it for PS5. I would never buy another google tv if i can avoid it - over complicates something that should be simple at this point.

Mine too.
Complete and utter garbage.
The TV comes on about once every 4 months or so, and then the Roku interface just shows cluttered ads.
Don't listen to the astroturfing on here that mention nothing about these flawed machines but just slag on GTV.

Can you bypass the Google TV and use Roku on it? Or will you be forced to use the Google TV interface to access the Roku?

I have This tv in a 50 since around black friday. I have since bought a mini led and have the mini led mounted above the QLED. It does not compare to the mini led. Considering the price and that after tuning and adding sound and a 4k player it's a great addition to my media room. . Google works for me because its cheap and i have a custom chrome book it works great with. Dolby Vision and Atmos is a gold star. oh and playing blu ray movies on my ps3 have never looked better.
