Those reviews claim it has a coating that begins to peel off. The wok listing states it is "nitride treated" which is a metal treatment and not a coating. There is some inconsistency somewhere.
Just based on looking at the images, that does look like a teflon coating and not the smooth matte finish achieved with nitride treatment.

Very similar wok sold in Aldi recently. It looked and felt similar to Teflon. Carbon steel is just the inner metal. These have a chemical non stick coating.

aren't these pre-seasoned? thought that means coated with cooking oil already so you don't have to to the first seasoning but still have to maintain the seasoning like a regular carbon steel wok?

A plain carbon steel wok can be "seasoned" to be almost non-stick without the chemical coating of a typical non-stick cookware. They go on sale for few dollars more, so search for those instead.

This non-stick "seasoning" vs non-stick "coating" discussion seems to come up every time one of these cheaper carbon steel pan in on SD. With a fairly even split of people claiming that it is some type of chemical, added surface and others claim those people don't understand what preseasoning of carbon steel means. 😀🤔

Hmm what's with the texture on the inner surface? The constant "non-stick" verbiage makes me think there's some kind of coating

Its all about $$$$$$$$$ today.
SD thinks more posts(crap) will equal more $$.
The opposite is true.

Crap staff post just serves to keep users away.
then need more staff to post more crap in order to make up for the lost revenue/traffic.

Do not buy this for you health's sake. Even Amazon Vine "customers" are giving this a 3-star review.
