I don't have one and I'm genuinely curious before I buy it, but can you use it like a hand tool when you need to apply more additional force than it can deliver to start or finish a bolt? Or would that break it?

Nowhere near enough torque to break them on even a car. You'd have to break them loose first, then this could do the other 90% of removal once loose

they make a high speed and a high torque. the higher torque one is better for breaking bolts free. However the new one that you can order now is 70lb of torque and 400rpm so that's the clear winner. that said, if you don't need it to break free bolts whatsoever and just want something to speed up manual labor, getting the current high speed one on sale isn't the worst idea. that said, these are typically around $130 for the bare tool at places like Walmart and combined with cashback etc, it ends up coming to this price. Woot also had them for a bit cheaper recently, and had cashback options at well, putting them around $100. Me, I'm just gonna wait for a better price on the new model

I appreciate the replies. I do a lot of wrenching on cars and already have the 1/2" impact gun for big or tough stuff. I'd mainly be using this for typical 3/8" sized jobs (top end motor work etc) and expect that this would be plenty of power for those bolts. I was just curious if it could be used manually to break stubborn bolts or give that extra quarter turn at the end. Sounds like either this one or the high speed one would suffice since they can handle that but since there's that new one coming out I may just hold out for it to hit a sale. Thanks!

This acts like a medium sized ratchet. Anything you can do with a regular old ratchet you can do with this. Just faster. It's not going to break anything free on its own.

I need to replace the timing belt on a Ford Expedition 5.4-liter Flex Fuel V8 engine. Is this good for all the dozens of bolts I will have to remove to open the engine? Or is head too large to be practical?

The model here offers higher torque (55 ft-lbs) at 200 RPM, while the one on Woot right now prioritizes speed 450 RPM with lower torque (35 ft-lbs) and a slimmer head for tight spaces. So it comes down to personal preference.
