Beware, these have a very strong plastic taste, I suspect it has to do with the materials, the larger bowl type does not have this problem.

I disagree. I have been eating Nongshim raymen cups for years. And at no point have the cardboard containers ever given a "strong plasticy taste". If this truly is a concern, consider emptying the contents into a glass bowl prior to cooking.
