Since this is split phase, could each leg of the 120v be wired to a subpanel to create a 220v breaker that could be wired into a nema plug? Would like to make a 240v charging station for an ev with batteries charged from solar.

That is literally the point, yes.

Could this be used for a ups type backup with a battery and plugged into a regular 120v outlet?

5 kW × 5 hours = 25 kWh per day

Now compare that with a 75 kWh EV battery.

Charging a 75 kWh car with 5 kW solar (5 sun hours)

  • Energy needed: 75 kWh
  • Solar produced per day: ~25 kWh

75 ÷ 25 = about 3 days

✅ Result:
  • About 3 full sunny days to charge from 0–100%.

Real-world adjustment

Because of inverter losses, charging losses, and weather:
  • Expect 3–3.5 days in practice.

Example EVs with ~75 kWh batteries

  • Tesla Model Y Long Range
  • Ford Mustang Mach‑E Extended Range
  • Volkswagen ID.4

Quick rule

With 5 kW solar and 5 sun hours:
  • ~25 kWh/day = about 80–100 miles of driving per day for most EVs.

If you just want to use this inverter for built 240V charging station for EV, actually you don't need to go through subpanel. This inverter has 1L, 2L, NEUTRAL, and GROUND TERMINALS. You could see those terminals in the picture of main post. So you could wired OUTPUT (1L, 2L, N, G) directly to NEMA PLUG to charge your EV. Of course, you have connect the batteries to the inverter terminal as well.

For people use for house backup, you could hardwire directly to breaker panel box. Or like I did, install NEMA POWER BOX direct to 50 AMP BREAKER MAIN PANEL BOX.

Of course, it could use as a regular 120V outlet as well. But this type inverter is mostly use for HOME BACKUP, EV CHARGE STATION, or OFF GRID POWER. If you want to use as UPS 120V OUTLET for a small device like computer, router, and etc. You should get a PORTABLE POWER STATION. That is must easier than using this type inverter for small device UPS.

I saw this deal small portable power station sale $153 with 512Wh. You could use this for UPS small device like computer, router, and etc.

Had an interesting conversation with Eco Worthy yesterday and they advised that these are fakes and not their products. Reported the listing.

What? This is Eco-Worthy-US. This is their legitimate Ebay account. They also have Eco-Worthy-US01 as their only other official Ebay account.

I want something that I can get a larger battery. My server uses approx 8-10kw per day. 512wh wont last but maybe 15-30 minutes.

I thought you backup something small. So you said your server use up to 10kw per day. 10000 wh / 24 hours = 417 watt. That mean, your server draw about 417 watt right?

You could get this "DC HOUSE 1200W Pure Sine Wave Inverter Charger" sale on Amazon $145 right now. This inverter and charger in one for 48v battery, and it also have 120V UPS FUNCTION like you want. This inverter is must easier to install and use. You just add battery to it.

Correct. It idles around 275watts and it maxes out around 430watts during higher usage. I just did some upgrades and got power usage down to about 7kw (it was previously around 325w idle and 460watts). However I do have free power at nights so I was wondering if I could get enough to run on battery all day and then run/charge at night on AC so then it effectively costs nothing to run it.

OK, you want to run your server whole day on battery, and want to use your house AC to charge the battery during NIGHT TIME. Because you have FREE ELECTRIC AT NIGHT.

Can you tell me when your FREE ELECTRIC start/end? So I could calculate how must battery you need. At night time, you could use your home electric to run your server and charge battery. Day time no free electric, you use the battery to run your server. This way, you could save your money on battery. And basically, you run your server for free, no more pay for electric.

Or you just want to run 24 hours on battery? To do this, you need at least 10kw battery to run whole day like we calculated. So you could buy 2 x 100ah 48v batteries to get you 10kw.

100ah x 51.2v = 5120 Wh per battery

The DC HOUSE INVERTER CHARGER has only 15AMP CHARGING. 200 AMP / 15 AMP = 13 HOUR 20 MINUTES to fully charge the batteries. So do you have more than 13 hour free electric? If you do, then that perfectly with DC HOUSE 1200W INVERT CHARGER. If not, you need to UPGRADE a higher inverter charger "DC HOUSE 2000W Pure Sine Wave Inverter + 48V 25A Lithium Battery Charger". The higher 25AMP CHARGER could charge 200 AMP batteries in 8 hours.
