Same performance as the base mac mini which can be bought for $500? $700 for a nice screen, keyboard and mouse? I have a 2015 27" iMac that still seems ok for occasional use. Will most likely go the Mac Mini route with a less quality 27" monitor.

Less quality monitor, or just better value?

The elderly, those who want an all in one space saving machine, and those who want something stylishly simplistic. Apple wouldn't still be selling them if there wasn't a thriving market for it.
Don't know how it is now but we used iMacs in a design studio for a regional publication

literally nobody is buying this to run local LLMthis is a great machine for people who just want an all in one desktop that can handle the vast majority of use cases
I am confused... why would anyone want a computer with only 256GB of harddrive space? R U KIDDING ME!!!! And it is NOT upgradeable.

Do youself a favor and get a PC for half the price and FOUR TIMES the hard drive space. Like, IMHO... you will use up that space fast and then you will spend the next five years deleting stuff to make room for what ever.

Like you install Office, some apps, and a few games... and you are practically full.

It has been about 15 YEARS... that is 15 YEARS... that I have been saying get AT LEAST 1 TB of hard drive space. Fifteen years later apple is still selling desktops for over $1000 and 1/4 the hard drive space that I recommended FIFTEEN YEARS AGO!!!!

FYI... my harddrive is 2TB.

While I don't disagree, I now own the M1 iMac and a M4 Mac Mini and the form factor (all in one) and beauty and elegance of the thin and sleek design really do have a strong appeal, to me at least, and I actually use the M1 iMac more than I do the M4 mini. Crazy, right? The sound quality and screen quality of the imac is outstanding, in my opinion, for the form factor.
You talk about "screen quality"... if you care so much of your screen, I would think you would be buying a PC. They are well ahead with OLED screens.

Man, with single core performance on the Macbook Neo being a hair better than this M4, I don't even know what market this plays to besides the screen being twice as large. So crazy.

EDIT: I need to clarify: M4 is 9% faster in single core performance. I was wrong.
Much faster multi-core and more GPUs

Really should be buying a local AI ready machine with at least 32gb of memory. you can easily do pretty good local code generation with a lot of the newer models. And they keep getting better.
Don't bother for casual programming. Antigravity gives you enough free access to state of the art models so you don have to do local LLM
