It does not have automatic one-pass dual scanning, so you'll need to scan and flip to scan the other side manually. This is important for people who need to scan a lot of stuff.

The better version with Fax and single pass scanning is $350 at Costco

Isn't a Brother Laser cheaper to operate per page?

Stay away from this POS the toner costs an absolute fortune. At least now aftermarket is available but it's expensive. Stick to Brother and Canon where aftermarket refills are cheap

The only HP printers worth buying are the liquid ink ones...

Aren't Brother lasers now DRM'd cartridges (thought I'd read that here at some point).

Yep, though taking the chip off of genuine toners and sticking them on the aftermarket ones work fine.

When did they start doing that?

So weird there are so many images in the reviews, yet none of them show an example print. Smelly.

One of the reviews stated that they could not afford to use the printer due to toner cost.

I literally have two printers because of this. A cheap black-only laser printer, and then the Costco version of the printer mentioned in this thread, with single-pass scanning.

2022 for some models, last year for other models. Dont upgrade your firmware on your printer if it currently doesnt bug you about it.

https://www.tomshardware.com/peri...rt-portals

Also dont upgrade any of the Brother apps as the newer versions will try to force you to upgrade your firmware to scan or fax.

Always Google a printer model with "DRM toner" to see if the printer is DRM free. Also find recent articles/posts as the ones being sold today might have the latest firmware already installed.

Wow, the toner cartridges are expensive for this printer. Can't get ink cartridges for my HP 8620 at a reasonable price anymore, either.
