If you need a chainsaw now, buy it at $250. It's a solid homeowner saw (storm cleanup, limbs, small trees).

If you're patient, Ryobi Days (May–June) sometimes gets close to $200 effective price with battery promos.

I've got the 14 and 20 inch versions of these. You might not be able to go all day on a tree crew with these, but they handle some pretty big stuff. I've had no complaints in 3 years that wasn't me doing dumb things.

Is this summary accurate? Searching on slickdeals I can't find any comparable deals for <$200

If you already have a couple 40v batteries this thing is real handy, but chews through power fast. It's nice to just plug it in and go.

This chews through batteries very quickly. I prefer gas powered unless you're just cutting down smaller logs/trees

I have the 14 inch version and I've been very happy with it. I have a larger gas chainsaw when I need something bigger but the 14 inch version works great for smaller stuff. Like others said I have a couple batteries it goes through them.

I have a Hart version and I think it's pretty similar and yes they go through batteries quickly. However I've found that I can find extra batteries for good prices on eBay and they work great. I use mine for firewood and my place where I use it is 20 miles from a town of 400 people and so I hate having to always remember to get gas and oil, the battery solves this. And it always is ready to run, vs having to try to start the gas ones after I haven't used them for sometime. Gas are great and are irreplaceable for some, but for me the battery power along with a couple of extra batteries and mine works great.

What are you guys using for bar oil?

I have the last gen 14inch model and it's been great except that is goes through bar oil quickly and weeps / leaks out when not in use.

I'm currently using the echo synthetic bar oil but wonder if that is too thin.

I use the generic gallon jugs from the farm store. I also have that same issue. I try to put it away as empty as possible and sit it on an old rag. The pole saw does the same thing to me.

best tip: for longer battery life, always keep your chain sharpened! dull chain will chew through batteries quickly. We have one with 3 batteries (2ah, 4ah, 6ah) and was great after storm clean up.

I have the 14" I think I bought for under $200. Thing is a beast, performs better than my old gas one.

Like so many others, also have the 14" and am very happy with it. I have the little toy 6" chainsaw for the easy stuff but have cut up some significantly sized downed trees with the 14". Anything on my property that the 14" can't handle is probably also something that I shouldn't be handling by myself either.
