I'm on the fence about switch 1 OLED or switch 2 for kid right now.
These are $220 used at local game stores.

I know switch 2 makes more sense but price is a big deterrent , also worried about not actually playing it , $80 games, breaking it, etc.

But then switch OLED is so old , and slow, and antiquated. 30 fps oh my 🤢

we have multiple gaming PCs and tablets but I just want to play Mario with my kid. why don't they make a console with no screen

Purchased switch 2 on day 1. I have 2 switch 2 titles and a few downloaded games from the store. Probably about 10 hours of use since new.

Switch 1 oled is great if you want to just play games.

To be honest, a Switch 2 isn't that big of an upgrade over a Switch. They should've called it a Switch 1.5 imop. So I wouldn't say a Switch OLED on sale is like getting excited about an Xbox 360 on sale.

That seems more like a preference thing. I'm not sure why you got a switch 2 at launch if you don't have interest in playing Switch 2 games?

Hard disagree about the switch 2, there's a ton of visual fidelity improvement. Most of all we are seeing games at 60 fps and 1080p, none of this 960p or 720p at 30 like we had on the switch. Even playing the remasters like Zelda TotK is night and day visually better and not the frames dropping to the teens when an explosion happens, and the new Age of Imprisonment looks really good

I bought a switch OLED with headset, spare controller, and case all brand new for $270, so I'm not sure why this is considered a deal.
If it were a PS4 or something, then I can see the benefit of getting an older system because the older games go for $5-$20 and there is a ton of amazing games. You could easily fill a year of fun games for $100.
The same is not true with Nintendo; that AAA first party game that came out 9 years ago is still the same MSRP as it is today. It is much better long term to save your money and get a switch 2. At least then you would be capable of playing games that are coming out as opposed to being restricted to last gen.

Whether it's a big upgrade over Switch depends on your frame of reference. Yeah, it's not like going from N64 to Gamecube. But in terms of CPU and GPU performance it's a bigger upgrade than Gamecube to Wii, Wii to Wii-U, or Wii-U to Switch. The issue is that there is not yet a lot of software that really shows off the significantly more powerful chip (Maybe Cyberpunk, Star Wars Outlaws, and a few others).
And then you've got all the nice to have features like better controllers, bigger screen, etc.

Because most Nintendo consoles don't sell as well compared to their portables that is why Nintendo went hybrid after the Wii U.
