I got another generic version of these car play screens. Paid some guy $100 to run the cables for the backup camera and make it look professional. I think its worth it if you are missing a backup camera and dont have a modern day screen or carplay. If you already have a backup camera or screen, its probably not worth it to have this large screen hanging sonewhere

I have an old Mercedes and its worth it. Sits on the dash and gives me carplay and android auto and a rear view camera. If I could just get a head unit but the speakers are these weird fiber optics and replacing the head unit is a lot of work and extra parts.

It would be good for some use cases like my mom with an older Ford Explorer, which has Microsoft Sync Gen 1. https://i.pcmag.com/imagery/artic...470676.jpg the dash has a dial pad on the side of a tiny 2 inch screen. Who's got the time to ever dial a number out while driving?!?!? This same dash panel piece extends down to the AC controls. meaning like some cars its not easily replaced since you would have to replace the entire panel not just the portion with the stereo. Furthermore, I think the sync parts control the screen behind the steering wheel, like modern Chevy vehicles having a linked stereo and Steering wheel displays, meaning there likely is one cpu controlling both, meaning it's probably in the stereo and requires the factory stereo to be buried and still connected. Fun fact older cars often times had a security system built into the stereo, so it too required it to be buried and still connected when you replaced the factory stereo with an aftermarket unit.

So to say a lot of work just to replace the stereo with an aftermarket unit.

If you can replace the entire headunit on your car it would integrate a lot better with the internal system since those come with canbus attachments that get details like door status, temperature, fan speed etc. They also have better processor and full Android OS to run apps natively on the unit.
Downside is that you have to do a lot of work to replace the oem headunit and that a good unit costs $500 or more. I bought one for my Camry from Dasaita and it comes with the trim to make it look like oem. I have also heard good things about Teyes, Atoto and Joying.

I put similar ones on a 2008 escape and a 2011 accord. They're an improvement to no rear camera, and small screen for maps on the phone. I also use it for YouTube music and getting my iMessages read while driving (Siri). The improvement makes driving more enjoyable. Just plan where are you going to put it.
