Can you use without creating account?
I'm pretty confident account setup is a requirement: Boost has been applying the same requirements to prepaid accounts as postpaid accounts

Can I port out within the introductory month? Want to use for a Metro port-in offer
I think porting out will be fine, although I'd wait a few days after activation. If that's your goal, factor in that it's going to take 30-60 minutes to get your port-out credentials. Not particularly problematic, but slow, since you have to call and be transferred between departments. (based on the last port-out I did from Boost, several months ago.)

Not worth hassle they try everything to keep you from porting out since you have to call

FWIW if a cell provider makes you talk to an agent to get port out details, the weirder your reasoning for wanting to leave is the less they will pester you. Generally speaking, if they haven't heard it before or don't have a script to respond to it... they'll just like like "uhhh okay moving on". Do not be obscene or gross or anything, just something they haven't heard before and won't have a scripted response for. When I transferred out of Mint I said I moved to the woods and have abandoned technology, and quickly followed up by asking if he had ever read Walden. I did not get an answer or any follow-up questions, I just got my account number and pin lol

Quick, fresh review of this item: I purchased this last month. New number with physical SIM into an iPhone 13 with virtual CC. Activation was a struggle but when it was done I had good network connectivity and speed in my area. I never used the Boost app (just Safari) and when 29 days passed, cancellation was easy.
Did you have to create a new account and add a CC to activate?

I created a new account (I'm new to Boost) and used the Gmail trick of adding "+boost" to my sign up email. I used Privacy app to set up the virtual credit card. I use Google Voice so losing the new phone number didn't matter to me.

This seems like a good deal for my use case.

I'm an android user but our 2018 BMW only does wireless carplay (no wired). I have a iPhone that is dedicated just for that car. Unfortunately, since carplay wireless means can't also use it's wifi to Hotspot off my android for internet. Just need data. So, throwing in this Sim each month seems like a cost effective way to get data for this unique situation.

For some reason BMW for 2018 x3 model doesn't do wired carplay at all. USB tethering from iPhone to android also doesn't work. This way can also setup Hotspot for the kids without draining my android battery.

Ordered. If it works will buy additional kits. Thx

If you move it to GV it will cancel your wireless plan. Not really a landline it can be used with your Google account
Once moved to Google Voice, the number will be identified in the database as a landline (not wireless). This is true of all VoIP numbers.

Anybody know what SIM they are shipping? In case you didn't know Boost (Dish Network) is actually it's own cellular provider, but it seems most of what it does is resells AT&T (edit:and still T-Mobile?). It generally only hands out SIM cards which can access its towers with devices it sells (presumably because of validation reasons). I thought in the past year that might have changed.

what network are they using ??
Gemini says:

Key details about Boost Mobile's network:
  • Primary Networks: Boost uses a combination of AT&T and T-Mobile towers.
  • SIM Card Dependent: The network you use depends on your SIM card. "Rainbow" SIMs access the new native Dish 5G network + AT&T/T-Mobile, while others generally connect to AT&T.
  • SIM Card Color: Historically, a Black SIM card indicates the AT&T network, while a Blue/Orange SIM usually indicates T-Mobile.
  • Rainbow SIM: This specialized SIM was designed to switch automatically between Boost's native network, AT&T, and T-Mobile to find the strongest signal.

I activated the boost sim in an iphone this week and was very easy. Note: As part of activation, it asks for your info and for credit card info, but I left it the credit card blank and allowed me to proceed with activation. I also selected get a new number (could be useful for those Metro bring your number deals since it should show AT&T).

With cellular on, I did an IP check and it shows AT&T. FWIW, my sim card was black.
