The TCL QM8K comes across as a bright-room mini LED TV that delivers strong black levels, vivid HDR, and better glare handling than competing sets in the same price range. It is especially appealing for large-screen viewing, with the 85 inch and 98 inch sizes drawing praise for movie nights and for replacing projectors in regular use. The main caveat is value, since the price has hovered around these levels for months and past sales were notably lower. Upscaling and image processing also trail Sony and LG on standard TV, and bright-room blacks can turn gray in dark scenes.
The QM8K can deliver stronger 4K HDR performance than competing Sony models, including higher peak brightness and improved colors.
The QM8K can perform much better in bright rooms than an OLED, with dark scenes holding up better under light exposure.
The QM8K can offer better glare handling and anti-reflective screen performance than a Bravia 5 comparison in the same size class.
The QM8K can provide better local dimming dynamic range and deeper blacks than a Bravia 5 comparison in dark-room viewing.
Dark scenes can look grey in bright rooms, which can make blacks resemble IPS-like performance under light.
The 85" QM8K may not be a killer deal because it has reportedly sold around $1,800 in late November and December and around $2,000 for a short period in February.
Standard TV upscaling and high-bitrate 4K HDR processing can look soft on the 98" model, leading to a return in favor of a Sony Bravia 9.
The 75" QM8K can develop dead pixels and a line through half the screen within about one month, creating replacement inconvenience.

Good TV, though. I like mine. It
If you mainly watch 4K HDR or other high-bitrate content, the TCL will likely impress you. However, if you also spend time watching standard TV (like YouTube TV or over-the-air broadcasts), I'd reconsider. The image processing and upscaling just don't measure up to Sony and LG. On a screen approaching 100", weaker upscaling becomes very noticeable, resulting in a soft-looking image, even from about 12 feet away.I tried adjusting every setting, using a wired Ethernet connection, and even relying on external devices like Apple TV and Nvidia Shield for upscaling, but nothing improved the picture enough to eliminate the issue.
The Bravia 9, on the other hand, has been excellent, accurate colors, natural skin tones, and overall superior processing. The Bravia 7 uses the same processor as the 9, so it's also worth considering.

By all accounts it's an incredible TV for the price. Reviews generally state it's not worth the price difference for the QM9k.
Been debating picking this up instead of a projector but it's hard to let go of my 65" LG OLED...
