This Moto G Power 5G bundle stands out as a low-cost way to get two 8GB RAM phones with Tracfone service, and the included allowance is 1,500 minutes, 1,500 texts, and 1.5GB for the year. The phones can be useful as backup devices, Wi Fi calling phones, or even media players, and the service can be activated later for gifting. The main catch is unlocking, since current Tracfone policy requires 365 days of active paid service and the bundled year may not count toward that clock. Software support also looks limited, with Android 15 confirmed and security updates ending around March 2027.

  • The phones can be used as Wi‑Fi calling devices after transferring service between the two lines.

  • The included allowance is 1500 minutes and 1500 texts per year, and it can be used across the full year period.

  • The phones can receive Android 15 updates now, with Android 16 still possible but not guaranteed.

  • The deal can work well for backup or media playback use while waiting out the unlock timeline.

  • Unlocking requires 365 days of paid active service, so the bundled one-year service does not shorten that wait.

  • Transferring service between the two phones can make the first phone no longer active, which can affect unlock timing.

  • Android and security support may be limited, with software updates ending at the end of March 2027 and no security fixes afterward.

  • Wi‑Fi calling setup can be problematic, including cases where the emergency address update fails and the Wi‑Fi calling option is greyed out.

In for the year long wait to unlock. Can't beat the price even if just using as media playback devices.

So is it true that starting Jan 20th, 2026, you now have to have service through tracfone for 365 days before the phone can be unlocked?
I have activated new line on 11/12/25 with Moto G 2025 from QVC and it unlocked later. About 1 month ago using that sim card with Straight Talk Moto G Stylus 2025 got it free from last ST deal. I don't know when, now Moto G Stylus 2025 is unlocked.

just to clarify, the minutes, texts, and data all expire after one year. then you just add another year of time for $50, to continue using. minutes, texts, and data can of course all be added too, before the year ends and after.
the minutes, texts, and data shouldn't expire. The service is for a year, and if you add on before the end of that year, any unused should carry over for the next round of service.

yes, i should have included "if you don't renew the time before the year is up".

The new TF Unlocking policy that they put in place on 1/20/26 requires one year of ACTIVE service. When you transfer service from phone #1 to phone #2, then phone #1 is no longer active. Before the new policy, TF used to unlock phones 60 days after activation even when service was transferred out.
I spoke to customer service. They said it does not matter as long as you activate first and then transfer.

The new unlock policy clearly states on the website that the current requirement for unlocking is 365 DAYS of PAID ACTIVE SERVICE & transfering service to a different phone beforehand will not unlock the 1st phone because it will be deactivated - and the worst part is you won't know for a year.

If you want both phones unlocked it's always best to follow the written policy. From past experience the reps are not trained very well (especially when TF makes major changes like they did in January).

When tracfone changed service to 60 days of paid service sometime last year, the bundled plans no longer counts. I have had this on two different occasions and had to do the 15$ plan for 2 months to unlock devices.
How can this happened to you when it hasn't even been one year since the new policy took effect on Jan 20th? You won't know if it will work until Jan 20th, 2027 minimum.

Under the old rules, the 1-year plan absolutely unlock after 60 days. I've done it countless times.

Are you simply switching your one year plan to an existing locked phone thinking you can unlock one every two months?

Deactivated? As in bricked and are un-usable as wifi devices?
No, they will still work as Wi-Fi devices, but won't have a phone line/plan attached, so won't count towards the 365 days of service to unlock. You're also paying $45 just to get a number to port, which makes no sense when cheaper methods are available.

That deal was predicated on the $30 new customer discount. This one does not require one.

I think you guys are missing the point. I've seen QVC deals for dual Motorolas go for as little as $60 with accessories. These phones are already losing support so waiting a year for unlock as it stands, is quaint at best if even possible as some claim it isnt. Besides having something do with your useless plan after using miniscule amount of minutes not to mention keeping the devices as smol PCs', wether you go metro or other mvno deals is more than superb IMHO.
