You can activate them as two lines, each with one year of service, and both will be unlocked after 365 days. You can also active phone #1, then active phone #2 with a transfer from phone #1. Doing it that way, phone #2 will have two years of service, and 3000 minutes/3000 texts/3GB of data. But phone #1 won't be unlocked because it's not active for 365 days.

Leaving the phone off doesn't affect unlocking, but TracFone has a policy to deactivate a smartphone if it has no activities on their network in 6 months. It's best to make a call or send a text now and then. Do it at the beginning of each month or quarter, easy to remember.

The best deal was in 2024 Stragithtalk has $75 in total for TWO. Only one month service included for each (not one year) but they unlocked automatically after 2 months (no extra pay).

This one has 2 years of TF service included, but too hard to unlock, plus it's 2026 already. So the 2024 deal remains the best.

As others mentioned do not SIM swap either phone if you want to be able to unlock it after one year. Whatever SIM comes with each phone you keep it in there the whole time. If you swap the SIM the countdown within Tracfone's system gets messed up and their reps will NOT unlock your device at the end of the year. Btw Tracfone customer service is not that great. Be cautious if you have had the same phone number for many years and would be upset if somehow you couldn't port out that number later on.

During the 1 year, can the phones be off for months and still qualified for the unlock? I may leave them in a drawer and forget to recharge the batteries...
