This Moto G Power 5G bundle stands out as a low-cost way to get two 8GB RAM phones with Tracfone service, and the included allowance is 1,500 minutes, 1,500 texts, and 1.5GB for the year. The phones can be useful as backup devices, Wi Fi calling phones, or even media players, and the service can be activated later for gifting. The main catch is unlocking, since current Tracfone policy requires 365 days of active paid service and the bundled year may not count toward that clock. Software support also looks limited, with Android 15 confirmed and security updates ending around March 2027.

I never understand the minutes. Is that a total of 1500 mini or texts and then your out, or is it 1500 per month?
It's 1500 for the whole year, you can use it all in one month or spread it out however you want in that 1 year period

Also, more can be added if needed: $10 for 500 minutes, $5 for 1000 texts, $10 for 3GB. https://www.tracfone.com/phone-add-ons

They're available, but cost more than older phones. https://www.qvc.com/catalog/psear...cfone+2025

365 Days of Paid Service. So the Bundled 1 year does not count.
I would bet it does. It certainly has previously. Nobody knows for sure.

You can port in a number AT ACTIVATION, not after activating the phone with a number. Tracfone pairs the SIM to the original phone and doesn't allow SIM-swapping. But you can get a BYOP TF SIM Kit, put the SIM from that kit into your unlocked iPhone, then transfer service from the Moto phone to the iPhone. All that could be done online by DIY before, but on 2/11/26 TF made a lot of changes to their system and many online functions no longer work, have to contact TF support to do them for you.
Texting "ACTIVATE" to 611611 will probably work. Just follow the prompts. Have your imei number ready.

Do these need to be activated when you turn them on/can they work as wifi devices only? Considering them for mini Home Assistant dashboards.

You can activate them as two lines, each with one year of service, and both will be unlocked after 365 days. You can also active phone #1, then active phone #2 with a transfer from phone #1. Doing it that way, phone #2 will have two years of service, and 3000 minutes/3000 texts/3GB of data. But phone #1 won't be unlocked because it's not active for 365 days.
This does not work like it did in previous years. You can no longer stack a bunch of minutes and service days from multiple lines.

Combining days/balances from two ACTIVE lines can no longer be done (most TF reps now refuse to do it), but activating an inactive phone with a transfer of phone number and days/balances from an active phone is still allowed. How else do people upgrade/replace their phone?

If you want the phones to be unlocked after 365 days, you need to activate them and use them to make a call/text at least every 6 months. If you will only use them as WiFi devices, no needs to activate or make calls/texts.

I've just relized this, QVC and Hsn may be great for port in deals on metro and such. Any experiences?

These Tracfone phones use Verizon network which means their numbers are eligible for port-in deals on Metro. But buying these phones mainly to port-out their number makes no sense because the phones are deactivated after porting. There are many cheaper ways to obtain a number for porting.

Deactivated? As in bricked and are un-usable as wifi devices?

Has this Moto G power bundle been on sale before? For the past few years I can only recall the Moto G play, other devices with 64 gb of storage or flip phones bundled with the 1 year plan in the $50-$80 range

No. You're just wasting the plan. The phone will still work as a wifi device. I bought a month of Lyca Mobile for $5 [lycamobile.us], which worked for a Metro port-in deal, but the transaction would not go through. It was probably too soon, since I had bought some a year ago.
