So is it true that starting Jan 20th, 2026, you now have to have service through tracfone for 365 days before the phone can be unlocked?

Nice phone for grandparents, especially if they have Wifi access. If this follows previous TracFone deals, you have 1 year to activate the service so it's not too early to buy these as Christmas gifts.

365 Days of Paid Service. So the Bundled 1 year does not count.

2024 Moto G Models only get 1 OS update. They started with Android 14 will only get 15

2025 models get 2 OS updates. 15>17

You can activate them as two lines, each with one year of service, and both will be unlocked after 365 days. You can also active phone #1, then active phone #2 with a transfer from phone #1. Doing it that way, phone #2 will have two years of service, and 3000 minutes/3000 texts/3GB of data. But phone #1 won't be unlocked because it's not active for 365 days.
