Lucky. I wish I had that coupon since I've always wanted to play that game but now that I don't have as much time to game the reimagined version would be ideal for the streamlined gameplay. I might still buy without the coupon

This is how it used to be- all about the gameplay. (AND I get what your saying. I love RPG's because of the story, and these early RPG's are short on that)

It is a little spoiler, but you can eventually contribute one of your characters to a lengthy side quest of sorts. They will always talk about how they enjoyed adventuring with you when you visit them afterward and they have a small tale that develops as your own adventure goes on.

However, because this removes them from your party long-term, a lot of people just make a throwaway character for this objective...

It will be up to you if you want to role-play something more significant by giving up someone you actually played with or not!
