Last note: These are open back meaning you can hear noise from your surroundings. I like this because I can hear my cat meowing at my feet and it feels less stuffy.

The Sundara is a bright, very neutral open back planar that stands out for detail, imaging, and bass extension once it is properly powered and EQed. At this price it is widely framed as a strong value, especially compared with models that cost around twice as much. The main catch is power, since it benefits from a dedicated DAC and headphone amp, and the stock tuning can feel light on bass. Fit, treble brightness, and HiFiMan quality control also come up, so it suits listeners who can drive it and tolerate a leaner sound.
The Sundara can sound very neutral with light bass, and EQ can improve the overall balance.
The headphones can deliver improved bass extension when paired with sufficient power and a DAC/amp setup.
The deal can be easier to secure when coupon codes work and the cart/order flow functions correctly.
The open-back design can reduce stuffiness and lets you hear surrounding sounds like a cat meowing.
The stock sound can improve significantly after applying EQ settings found from ASR-based guidance.
The Sundara can be very bright and may be unpleasant for listeners sensitive to treble peaks.
The headphones can require substantial power and headroom, and dongle DACs with limited output may distort with heavy bass.
The headband fit can be problematic for larger or smaller heads, and plastic components may wear out or snap.
The return policy can require the item to be unused, which limits the ability to audition and decide fit.
HiFiMan shipping issues can occur, including reports of a faulty pair such as one ear not working.

Thus, despite what others say, not neutral at all. They'd sound bright because there's no bass, but they're capable of bass with EQ.
Also, the distortion is better than most but not excellent. Good at normal listening levels. OK loud. Bad at ear bleeding.
