I love hue, and you can really tell the quality of development on their app compared to others.

But in the fixture market, you can get the same fixture for $50 elsewhere. Govee is a great example. But the app is terrible.

I still don't know why these are 8x the price as Govee. I understand the quality difference, but 8x!?

It's funny all the smart lights have been getting cheaper every year except Philips hue which has been getting more expensive. Not worth it just for software when you can buy a whole room for the price of one light.

It's the ecosystem unfortunately. If you're already using the Hue app, you probably don't want the Govee, Kasa, and all other 3rd party apps to control just the lights. People get locked into the ecosystem and will pay the premium tax just to avoid the hassle

And that is why you find a solution like Hubitat or Home Assistant where you can mix and match ecosystems into a single control. I do understand this isn't as simple as the plug and play nature of Hue etc though.

There's a reason why they call it the hue tax

I had hue bulbs at my old house and loved it. But I got a govee light like this for fifty bucks max. Would never pay this even on sale

I wish Lifx would have taken off like Govee as an alternative for Philips hue. To me they have great quality products and their software is also great.

Totally agree. I have dozens of Hue color bulbs in my homes, but these prices are crazy- even on sale.

I'm better off getting a fixture and throwing hue bulbs in there.

I hear you. I have 60 plus hue lights in my condo across 2 bridges. I needed a ceiling and saved $300 by buying a Govee instead of this one. I was hesitant but it works just great. The app works fine to me but use other means to turn my lights on most times anyway (Google home, smart switches). Don't regret the decision to go Govee for this ceiling light even at this price.

Lifx only makes WiFi bulbs, which are a big no for me. Zwave or Zigbee are required for reliability, distance, and network congestion reasons.
