Definitely don't recommend with low quality lithium cells. There's always chance they randomly drain too quickly to output the amps required for the alarm to recognize a low battery to warn you. Better off with dollar store 2 for $1.25

These keep coming up. They appear by some test reports to be ~400mAh. Not 1400 and not great by WAY better than NiMh 9v.
I use mine in smoke alarms and digital volt meters, but mine are (tested) 500-600, AND I change them out every 6 months.

I worked at a smoke alarm company for many years and have seen a lot of tragedy from fires. I wouldn't recommend straying from a standard name brand battery. They are pricy up front but if you're going to stay in your place for a while they make sealed units with 10 year batteries (smoke alarm's have a 10 year life) so once a decade you replace the entire alarm but avoid the cost and hassle of batteries.

Not to mention the inconvenience of dying in a fire.

I use these as battery backup in some LED clocks. They lose their time each time we get a blackout, huge pain. Also put one into a gas detector alarm that is normally AC powered but complains with beeps if the 9V gets weak.
Now with another 4 I will have spares that stay charged.

I was just thinking of picking up some rechargeable 9V batteries for my ThermoWorks TimeStack timer. It's not a critical device, so no harm if they don't last.

Can you even change batteries in new ones. They are now sealed and they pretty much expire in 10 years, really weird thst this is new trend, a lot of plastic waste, a lot of malfunction. I had to get warranty replacement and they are not cheap. Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors are expensive.. They said maybe I didn't clean it enough regularly that's why it malfunctioned... didn't clean it enough.. what?

They still sell/use "normal" ones. I have them in my house which was built recently.
People like the sealed ones because they dont have to change batteries, and if one goes off due to, say, cooking, then they dont network and trigger them all.
