I highly recommend you look for a two hose portable AC and not a single hose like this one. The inherent design of single hose AC units requires air from inside your home to be blown out through the exhaust, and that air being taken from inside your home must be made up with air sucked inside from the outside through the gaps in your windows, doors, etc. A two hose AC unit does not move any air from inside your house to outside and does not cause air to be sucked into the house through the gaps mentioned above. One hose pulls in air and the other hose exhausts that same air after it passes over the compressor and picks up the heat. The air that is chilled comes from inside your home and is blown back into your home. The two sources of air never touch or mix.

While your points are generally valid but not all dual-hose units are created equal and some can be quite crappy quality. You can still find cheap brands/models with leaky internals, flimsy hoses, and loud fans, thus, you don't always get the efficiency you're paying for.

Sure that can be said about any type of product ever, though. A single hose simply has this pretty glaring flaw in its effectiveness just by virtue of how it works.

I have a couple of single hose ac units that I can use with my back up home power set up in case of power failure. In a pinch, these have proven reliable enough to keep a bedroom cool during Texas summers. Obviously this is only meant for temporary use.
