I remember I was in 2nd grade in the 1970s when my teacher told us to buckle down and learn metric because Congress had passed a law and we'd all be switching over soon...
In some weird way, maybe the failure to switch has had some minor beneficial effect on Americans, by forcing us to perform conversions in our heads. Nah, probably not.
