That's one HELL of a statement considering these are considered the gold standard for travel routers. There's not even competition. It's not even close. TPLink has a crappy copy they attempted, and then UniFi put out a complete joke of a travel router recently. GliNet is miles ahead of anyone else in this space and anybody that knows travel routers knows they are basically the only option.

Lol what? Where are you guys inventing this BS? This is a brand spanking new router, new SoC in it, outspeeds the Beryl AX by almost 4X in Wireguard tests. I genuinely think you're confused or thinking of a different model. I have a Beryl AX, which this is the successor to. The Beryl AX isnt even going anywhere anytime soon. "End of life" LOL you guys will tell yourselves any lies you need. But for what gain, I'm not sure. You also noted it's finnicky but notably didn't say in any way how.

And their base is OpenWrt, it's laughable to claim anything running OWRT is "end of life". So not only is the opposite true hardware-wise, it's also true software-wise.

They could not be any easier. If a captive portal happens, it automatically displays it to the user so they can authenticate. And if that doesn't work, you tell it to clone your phone's MAC. It's that easy.


I'm seriously concerned that not ONE of you making negative commentary about this thing have ever once used a GliNet product, much less are familiar with them in any way. It's quite telling.

Thanks OP! Mine was literally arriving in the next 60 minutes from an order I placed yesterday at full price when I spotted this deal. It has been sitting in my cart for a week until I finally pulled the trigger. Just got Amazon to credit the $32 difference over chat now. Sweet!

Not sure where these naysayers are coming from but they are suspiciously light on specifics and no data or facts to back up their complaints. I looked at everything available in this class of equipment to build out my home network refit with a security focus and this is the name brand to buy and OpenWRT is the way to go. This unit is far more capable and powerful than any other solution in this class.
While not using it on the road, I'm going to use it as a WiFi bridge to connect my home office laptop to it via Ethernet cable. With its bigger antennas + stronger amplifiers I'm hoping that letting it handle all WiFi negotiation and retries instead of the laptop's kit will prevent the need for mesh or repeater to get decent network stability to my far corner location. And with two Ethernet ports, I can also run another device when needed.

These portable routers become more and more expensive, and use more and more energy. For a portable router, I think it's going toward the wrong direction. The old MT300N actually works pretty good, satisfying most use cases. I can power with a power bank for days. Small form factor, can easily tuck into any corner in a luggage. These Beryl routers drain battery much faster, bulkier, and comparatively do not offer benefits that are light-years ahead. I have 3 GL.inet portable routers, I still carry MT300N every time going out. A portable router is to offer connectivity, not high speed, that's the point.

GL.iNet is definitely the gold standard in travel routers. If I didn't already have the previous model I would pick this one up.
The fact that they have a user friendly front end but also an easy way to get to the OpenWRT LuCI interface makes it one of those companies that caters to both average and power users.

Yeah surprised at the negative comments. Bought this and used on a international trip and it was awesome having my own VPN setup that was broadcasted to all my devices. Super happy with it
