Sta-Green Flower and Vegetable Garden Soil is a very cheap bagged option for filling beds, mixing into garden soil, or starting a few seeds when amended. The low price and pickup or delivery workarounds make it attractive, and the bags can be useful when bulk delivery is expensive. The main concern is quality, with repeated reports of wood chips, low nutrients, poor water retention, and plants being stunted or killed unless compost, perlite, peat moss, or other amendments are added. It seems best treated as a filler or base mix rather than a stand alone planting medium.

Mulch is typically cheaper than soil, but mulch and soil are not equivalent products.

I purchased this last year and you have to be really careful with it. It will kill your plants and water rolls right off of it. The only way this stuff will work is if you rototill the soil so it gets mixed in properly. If you just pour it on top of the soil or do a poor job mixing it in, you're going to have major problems. And this is not for seeds. You do that. Die. I'm Saying this as a heads up so you all don't go through what I went through. Good luck! Happy growing!

Stay away from this stuff, I bought 80 bags last year and it killed every plant I put into it or severally stunted it. In 20 years I never had the same issue w/ the miracle grow garden soil. Never again w/ this garbage!
Weird I've been using this for 4 years just fine. I always buy this cheap soil to mix with perlite, peat moss, and sand before planting

Went to pick some up tonight and changed my mind after lifting a bag and then checking the quality of one that was open, If it's light,it's just not right !

I feel bad. My wife was adding another $1.53 brush in to the cart and it was indicating free shipping for the bag of soil. So I added 10 bag of mulch , 1 soil and the brush and got free shipping delivery. Really felt bad for the driver that dropped all these off at my front lawn today.

I am using cheap fill dirt where I can't get machinery to deliver dirt. Will go under new sod as I fill out an embankment. My hope is the sod roots before any huge rains, this stuff will wash away. I don't think this stuff is good for seeding at all. Just add like a screwdriver or some bits and get free delivery.

I did all that and it still killed everything in it or severely stunted it. Trust me, it's not my first rodeo with my garden. This garden soil was pure cr*p! i have never had an issue with MG ever so I am going back to that unless there is another better option.
I have used it for a couple of years no problem
