This foaming coil cleaner is valued as an easy way to clear caked on grime from AC coils, mini splits, RV units, and even heater cores, with reports that it improves appearance, cooling, and sometimes lowers power use. The formula is described as lemony fresh and less harsh than bleach based cleaning, while still loosening debris that a hose alone may miss. The main cautions are that it may take two cans for a larger unit, and the bottle does not appear to include a tube for tight spaces. A practical pick for routine coil maintenance when access and coverage matter.

  • The spray can improve coil appearance and cooling by rinsing grime toward the center drain.

  • The product can be used on mini splits and other HVAC areas where hosing isn't practical.

  • The foaming cleaner can loosen caked-on coil debris beyond what a simple hose rinse removes.

  • The cleaner can help reduce how hard an AC unit has to run after cleaning.

  • Some coil cleaners can be corrosive and may cause more damage than they prevent.

  • The cleaner may be corrosive to metal, so it can be risky if used on the wrong coil type or without proper care.

  • The spray does not include a tube for hard-to-reach areas, which can limit use on some vehicles.

  • Thorough cleaning may require two cans for larger home or decent-sized units.

Turn power off to the unit, breaker or by pulling the disconnect. It's best to rinse from inside to outside, so remove the top fan for access. Honestly for outdoor coils, just rinsing with water is fine. Use a garden hose. Don't forcibly spray with like a nozzle as it can bend fins. Just let the open hose rinse it out.

Wouldn't 10 minutes of my time and using a garden hose to wash the coils do the same thing?

These really help loosen up caked on debris beyond what you can do with just a hose.
Hard disagree with the manufacturer's "no rinse necessary" claim, though... you'll want to blast your coils with a hose nozzle pretty good to get any of the more caked on debris dislodged - otherwise, you're not getting a proper clean.

I finally did my ~2.5 yr old Midea 12K unit in the middle of last summer and it made a pretty significant difference in how hard the unit had to run - we're talking a ~25% reduction in power consumption. It didn't look bad (it's kind of hard to see the problem areas), but it was, and it took a decent amount of direct spraying with one of the more aggressive spray patterns. Just be careful not to go so hard on it that you're bending fins.
