This has been this price for a couple of weeks now, but it's still an awesome deal.

These are great headphones, but they feel like they should be 100-120 for BNIB headphones. The hd490s have a similar sound but the quality difference does feel like 300+ headphones.

Is this a cheaper version of HD600 that does not need an amp?

You'd probably like the HD 599. They're on sale for $100 on Amazon right now

These are excellent studio quality headphones, great if you have a need for a high quality flat response set.
They are my preferred pair for home recording and mixing.

Might as well be the regular price for these now. They were lower recently (few months ago) and who knows, maybe they'll be that low again if you're not in a hurry and care about a good deal.

For those who don't know, these are THE wired headphones to get for competitive gamers in this price range. You'll be able to pinpoint footsteps/reloading sound direction and elevation very accurately. CS/Valorant players, you know who you are.

Took the words out of my mouth. For under $1000 these are the absolute best gaming headphones money can buy. Just add a mod-mic or sennheiser even makes a mic for this model. You will hear directional sound in a way you didnt know was possible. I have tried all of the "best" gaming headsets and these blow them all out of the water.

I have HD598, it is not as good as HD600, especially the mid.

I have the 598s also, and in some ways prefer them over the 599s. I saw the 599s on sale one day for $80 and couldn't resist. But I have a small amp I use with the 598s that boosts the bass a bit and the volume also without coloring them. The 599s have more bass, but don't sound quite as open to me. Although most reviewers choose the 599s over the 598s.
