PSA that many Macs, especially Apple Silicon USB4 *lack* USB 3.2 Gen 2x2. As such these will run at 10 Gbps on those machines.

Apple Silicon Macs should use USB4 (or Thunderbolt) SSDs for full speed.

Also curious if this can be shucked. I have a similar Samsung, but it's basically a big PCB on the inside and no easy way to attach to an M2 or SATA port. Assuming this is the same, but no idea.

This problem actually isn't limited only to macs. Most Thunderbolt controllers on the planet don't support a 20Gbps mode and will fall back to 10Gbps on drives like this.
For maximum compatibility in terms of reaching peak speed, you'll want a USB 4 drive or enclosure.

Before the hikes, a good deal was $50/TB. This deal is $80/TB. So, no, this isn't a good price from the pre-hike era. However, it's debatable if those prices will return anytime soon. Being around $80/TB (rather than the roughly $100+/TB that prevails now) is a pretty good deal.
I do believe prices will come down eventually, but most industry experts say fab capacity (both for RAM and flash/SSD storage) is consumed for years to come.

I think if you care that more sequential speed (rather than random writes) and you can take advantage of Gen 2 x 2, it's a decent discount from the prevailing recent prices. Presumably prices won't come down in the near future, but you never know. No one has a magic ball.
I think the reason for the discount might be the limitations: as others have stated, Gen 2 x 2 is being supplanted by newer interfaces.

Edit: I mixed up sequential and random. ETA: actual answer to the pricing question.

I haven't seen any 2TB ssds for under $200 in a while, so seems pretty good to me.
