I've used TurboTax and H&R Block as well as FreetaxUSA. For the most part, all of them will get the job done. I think you will find that the problem with switching between them is not that one will be deficient, but that the flow will look different to you and that might slow you down a bit. As I've used H&R more, I find it easier to use. However, it did not prompt me to enter some things that TurboTax did. The forms were there, but I needed to know to start the interview whereas TurboTax just made me go through it. This year, perhaps since I started earlier, I noticed bugs in the H&R Block software. Some earlier patches changed my return. Others remained with incorrect numbers on emitted on some forms, but the later calculations fix the sums meaning that the bugs didn't change the end numbers. H&R Block also will not import anything from Bank of America or any of their companies (Merrill) this year, but TurboTax apparently still does. For these reasons, I found H&R more frustrating this year.
Perhaps my opinion was swayed with the increased cost (until this deal), this year and last year. Last year I went to FreetaxUSA and was surprised on how well it did. My apprehension has always been storing my data online, but then I learned that if you e-file, both H&R and Intuit save your return online for 5 years too, so either way you have to worry about data breaches. I only went back to H&R this year because I needed to get an early jump on my taxes at a place that wouldn't have dependable internet service.

I just use the free version of Malwarebytes when needed.
Win 11 built in virus scanner works fine for me

I've been using TaxAct for years, and this year there were no deals. Literally did my taxes past weekend and paid ~$130 (federal + state).
Malwarebytes Premium is my current security software of choice (past ~4 years)...lightweight, and very effective.

Turbo is more user friendly. H&R you have to watch and compare what they import to forms you received in the mail or online. Don't assume your H&R Block import was all inclusive. For example, they will import your ETrade brokerage, but not your ETrade bank 1099. You have manually enter the bank side. Also, I found out today that H&R no longer has a partnership with Merrill Lynch, so if you have a lot a stock trades with Merrill, I'd definitely pass on H&R this year.

I only switched to HR after the TT registration controversy a few years back. Not sure if it's still an issue.

I don't need Malwarebytes. Has $20 been the best deal for HR alone?

Yes. Used to be you could hold out for 15 but that isn't the case anymore.

I've already prepared my taxes using this H&R deluxe plus state like usual, paid $23 I think a few weeks ago, but I have a second state I need to pay for. In the software it costs $40 just to file the second state, anyone know if I can buy this and just use the code for the second state with what I already have? Or would I have to install a whole separate prep and re-insert all my info for the second state?
