Community Reviews
Tramontina's tri ply clad stainless set is framed as solid, affordable cookware that covers most kitchen basics without All Clad pricing. The pans and pots are praised for everyday durability, with the 6 quart stock pot and 5 quart Dutch pot singled out as especially useful, and the set is seen as a strong value around $188. The main cautions are that the edges are not sealed, the 6 quart stock pot may feel small, and dishwasher use is discouraged. It reads as a practical long term set if stainless fits your cooking style.
Common Questions (5)
Yes, $188 is described as a decent price for the assortment, especially compared with higher-priced All-Clad and other tri-ply options. It is also described as a long-lasting, everyday set that can cover most cookware needs.
It can feel undersized if you cook larger batches, though it works well for a small family. For bigger weekend meals, a larger pot may be more useful.
No. The set is reported to have exposed edges rather than sealed ones, so it is not the best choice if you specifically want sealed-edge stainless cookware for extra protection against edge wear.
It is best to avoid the dishwasher. The cookware is reported to hold up better with hand washing, and one cleaning method that works well is heating water in the pan, then scrubbing stuck bits with a folded paper towel and wooden spoon.
It is described as comparable in quality to All-Clad, with some preferring Tramontina's handles over All-Clad's. The main practical difference raised is handle comfort, not cooking performance.

Not at the moment. Costco has as sale on This Tramontina 12-piece set [costco.com] every few months or so. $160 for a set that's normally 240. Wifey loves the 5-quart dutch pot as it's a perfect size for a small family.
Second, if you can't afford to purchase a set, check Macy's sales and pick it up one piece at a time.
I love my 6-quart stock pot, but for some things I have the time to make on the weekend, I really need a larger pot. Tramontina has one. It was recently one sale at Macy's, but I missed the sale. Just have to be patient and wait for the next big sale.
Here's ATK's most recent test of 12" stainless skillets. Tramontina is in the third tier, 'recommended with reservations'.

You won't get nonstick like teflon by using stainless or cast iron with "a bit of oil." You will need a ton of oil to even approach the nonstick properties of teflon. By then, you will be shallow frying your food.
Nonstick pans have a lifespan. They also off-gas toxic chemicals when heated too high, some studies showing as low as 445F. Don't use them as soon as you see degradation or scratches in the pans. But they are very useful for cooking foods like eggs.
