IMHO flossing is better because it gets below the gum line, but it does take longer than the pick brushes. However, it's better to use these than nothing when in a hurry.
Some of the benefits overlap, but these are different than floss. The mini brush can clean around dental work/crowns and where teeth are tight or overlap--spaces where a regular toothbrush or floss don't reach.
Had this conversation with my dentist 2 days ago. She said it does probably a better job for the part near your gums but would hesitate to recommend it since you should do flossing between the teeth if you use these picks and it defeats the purpose unless you do both.
If given the choice between flossing and the picks if she had to choose one she would recommend you do the flossing between the teeth because that is ultimately what causes more cavities.
