May be a good price for this specific product but there's way more savings if you just don't buy Scotts brand seed. Other established brands are nearly 40% less for a bigger bag of seed.

Don't forget to aerate the lawn first!
Check your local seed providers. I got some great starter fertilizer and grass seed (50 pounds of each) for $169.

IMO, it's not even a brand thing. You will get much better value by buying the seed and fertilizer separately. You will save even more money by pregerminating first.

Links? Scott's isn't successful because they have the best product. They are successful because they bring their product to market the best. If you've got a link where I can buy better seed and fertilizer shipped to my door for this price, I'm all in.

I agree. I get amazing quality seed mixes from Twin City Seed Company for a similar price but it's 100% seed and 0% weed content. You'll get much better germination. The only thing you'll need is a separate bag of starter fertilizer and you're set.

Buy quality seed from a landscape supplier like Site One. Big box store seed is poor quality and planting results in many weeds.

For sure, Scotts is in ubiquitous (online & in Lowes/HD/etc) and they advertise. That said, Lesco, Jonathan Green, & Pennington come to mind but those brands I think are probably on the same level as Scotts. Going further, you can always hit up your local nursery (usually a mom & pop operation) and they might sell local stuff. For example, my local garden store (not Lowes/HD) sell grass seeds formulated by Rutgers specifically for the NJ climate at a much more affordable price.

Way too expensive even when on sale. The product has too much filler material. Bad overall product for the money. Buy 100% weed free seed for less money.
