Got one as a backup, have two Fire4K sticks still running from when Woot was doing fire sales of them for like $12.
Had 3 but one bricked itself a year ago and got replaced with an ONN4K box.
Like people said, the ONN4K is definitely more robust, but the FireSticks are set to auto launch Kodi at startup and we have them going through a home AdGuard server to block updates and such. Kodi can launch the Android apps as well so we did the Olympics with Peacock with barely any ads (AdGuard again) and it's simple enough that everyone in the house can control it without needing tech support (me).
As a 16 dollar back up Kodi device it'll go into a drawer.

Yep. Nobody uses firestick anymore, I tossed all 4 of mine and replaced them with the ONN 4k android boxes, like most people. And you can completely shut off google if you want. No worries of blocked or deleted apps.

this isn't that "Fire Stick select" where nothing can be side loaded but you should definitely look into at least setting up an OpenDNS Home account or private DNS blocking on your router/etc to disable updates and phoning home.
They have wireless ADB and can be debloated a bit with some technical knowhow, but you should definitely not trust Amazon to limit what can be put on it at any moment (hence the update blocking)

Firesticks are the most egregious of all of the streaming devices in terms of violating your privacy and monetizing your data. They will use your data, metadata, screenshots (captured many times per second), and whatever they can sniff off you home network. They will use it to serve you targeted ads, and worse than that, it is then sold to data brokers, where it gets aggregated with all the data that have been collected about you from all the sources out there in the world (your phone, your car, flock cameras, etc.) and then sold to anyone who wants it--other companies, individuals, police departments, and governments. Firestick is worse than Onn, Roku, NVidea Shield, and Apple (listed in order of most egregious to least egregious). Mine are all Apple devices, attached to air-gapped TVs that have never been connected to Internet.

Rule of thumb: If it's free or really inexpensive, you are the product.

Any of them with wifi 6 or higher seem to support the app. I tried side loading it on to my fire tv and it didn't go so great though. Super slow to load and tons of issues playing and loading games. Better xcloud works marginally better but still randomly crashes on me. Oh well, I can just use my laptop.

I will point out for many folks, KODI started as a media player for the ORIGINAL modded xbox, and still exists on xbox today. I use TUBI, KODI w/a debrid account, and dropbox (fan edits) off my xbox series x's with one also dev kit program enrolled to emulate other consoles (dolphin support being the big one). I grabbed adguard years ago for my whole house off a deal here ($12/lifetime 8 accounts) and it's been great. Wifi blocks ads via a pihole and it's completely eliminated firesticks aside from purely offline emulators for me.

If you're grabbing these for KODI or other uses, not only do many modern tv's support mirroring from your phone but many devices support sideloading apk's for android or using the various apps such as stremio or kodi.

This is probably worth at $10, not a penny more. No deal here

Honestly anyone here thinking about this. Just get the $29 Onn box. It's definitely worth the extra few dollars.
Fire Sticks 4K can be powered by TV's usb port which is much closer to plug and play (and aesthetically cleaner) than bumbling around for an extra wall outlet socket or extender but the ultimate differentiator is Dolby TrueHD Atmos passthrough (confirmed with Kodi as a player for you Stremio fans with AVRs or Atmos height channel capable sound bars) for lossless audio and height metadata. Onn is great for most but then again so is a $16 fire stick bc sadly most people don't mind ad-riddled Home Screen/launcher. The Onn Pro 2 leaks don't suggest anything new on the audio passthrough but if they do I'm right there with you

I'm all about Amazon Fire TV Sticks. I don't know if anything offers the unified search like Amazon. You can be at the home screen and voice search for a certain movie or TV show and it searches a large amount of the streaming services, telling you which one(s) the show's on. Then, you can go right to it. Amazon went through a lot of work for that. I don't love everything Amazon does, but that was one feature you can't beat with a stick! (See what I did there?)

Stremio and a few other apps do. There is a stremio add-on that will show you all available sources for a piece of content that you have searched.

Bought myself one of these 4K fire TV sticks the last time woot! had them on sale. The best price you'll ever find for one of these brand new.
