That's just bad advice. 16gb is more than enough for a lot of people and an extra 8gb isn't necessary for the addition price. Future proof is just bad advice because you're spending more money for something that in the future will have better tech. Spend what you need, not what you think you need.
Agreed. I have an m1 with 8gb and it's more than enough. macOS is definitely written more efficiently than windows. 16gb is plenty for an Air still.
People who need more than that will typically get the Mac Pro or Studio for actual work uses that demands it.

It really depends on what you needed for. For browsing, office applications and basic work, the M4 will be more than enough with 256. But if you do any creative work or coding or local AI then go with the M5
BestBuy does a price match if in case anyone like me have left over gift cards or certificates from previous purchases.
If you have a Dash pass with DoorDash then you can buy BestBuy gift cards for 10% off with maximum savings of $25. That's an additional discount if you can manage it. You can only get one gift card per account but if you have friends then can maximize more savings. Just a tip.

Especially if you plan for doing local AI things. Looking to get a Mac mini with 32gb+ ram type. With a portable battery supply and portal monitor. Got. A mobile mini Mac.
