Fantastic price for a great spec. A lot of these sales don't even beat edu price, so beating it on the M5 is awesome. Plus overnight delivery.
By the way I think this deal is better value, less niche, and certainly delivered faster, but FYI $1379 for the 32 GB / 512 GB from the edu store is in this price range. Two week wait.

personally, I do not like screen on the MacBook Air m4. It feels washed out and difficult to work with text. I would only consider replacement if there are improvements in the display.
worth waiting or is this ok for running local LLMs and AI ? i wanted to get the Mac Studio M4 but think the M5 is probably a better move. or maybe im over thinking it...

The M5 is built for AI with modules inside the GPU specifically designed for this work. Definitely choose the M5 if you can afford it.

Yes, MBA display noticeably inferior compared to MBP display. However, for my use-case size and weight is way more important than display quality and brightness.

MacBook Air vs Mac Studio are two very different products. And very different price points. $ for $, if you are seriously considering Mac Studio, then wait for M5 Pro/Max Mac Studio. It will have superior cooling and sustained performance compared to MBA. It will also cost twice as much as an MBA.
I would not buy an MBA except for very, very light LLM/AI work. 16GB will limit you to the mini models. MBA is thin and light. Studio is heavy duty work at your desk.

If you're going to wait for that may have well wait two generations. From what I've read most likely biggest change is no more notch.
