I recently adjusted my valves on my 15 year old Honda and the vallve train looked great inside, with no varnish, deposits or sludge. That's what I wanted out of 5K OCI. And I have the peace of mind knowing it'll easily last another 100K miles, for me or the next owner.
For $600 in oil changes over 15 years, that was money well spent, IMO.
As a Slickdealer, I was getting the oil "Free After Rebate" for the majority of that time, so I didn't actually even spend $600. It was Free, just the cost of filters.
I've seen plenty of engines after 10K OCI and they usually look like crap inside once they get over the 100K mark, (ie out of warranty) .
New replacement V35A engine still blow up after 6000 miles.

5K Toyota OCI light was the norm for decades. Then the German came out with 10K to 15K OCI. So Toyota had to bump up the OCI to 10K to maintain the "lower cost of operation" theme. Only have to last past warranty period, right? Unfortunately, thin oil, marginal electric oil pump pressure, high load turbo, direct injection, reduced bearing surface area, and weaker block design killed the Toyota V35A.

Higher viscosity oil will buy a little more time before failure. That's the GM strategy to get out of warranty repair.

No. Multiple failures, per my previous post. Toyota uses machining contaminants to limit liability. Why not include those same V35As found on hybrid in the recall?
