1. An unmanaged layer 2 switch isn't capable of packet capture.
2. An unmanaged layer 2 switch doesn't forward it's MAC address, so it's can't manipulate a MAC table because it MUST forward the client's MAC.
3. Any layer 2 switch doesn't do ARP. That's a layer 3 feature (network).
4. Any layer 2 switch doesn't do DHCP. That's a layer 7 feature (application).
5. An unmanaged layer 2 cannot do VLAN tagging. A managed switch can do VLAN tagging, but there's no "send this data to China" VLAN.
6. An unmanaged layer 2 switch cannot do flow redirection.
7. Any layer 2 switch MIGHT introduce some latency and/or jitter if it's a really crappy or extremely old, but neither allow traffic sniffing.

Remember, no machine should EVER connect directly to the internet. You should place it before a firewall and if you have any doubts, both your router and firewall can inspect (and subsequently block) any suspicious packets.

A+ effort for spreading FUD.

LOL, a lot of technical terms with no practical attack vector or a chip set price point well beyond a dumb switch.

Nice try though.

It's a good deal with fast shipping but if you need/want an SFP+ port uplink, a 5port is about $28 and 8 port about $37 on Ali-Express if you can wait a week for shipping.

China shills trying to pawn off infected network gear.
Can you explain how a layer 2 switch can sniff your traffic and send data to China w/ out an IP address?

I literally bought bought a 2.5gb switch off Ali express and immediately noticed bookmarks added in all my browsers. I did not install anything new, literally just plugged the switch to my network then boom
That's literally not possible...

I wish my experiences with Ali -- all terrible -- had been better... My experiences with AMAZON -- thousands of them -- have been 99.9% fantastic. For me, a few bucks isn't worth the extra risk. YMMV.

Well let's see- Port mirroring for packet capture- Mac table manipulation- ARP spoofing- DHCP spoofing- VLAN retagging- Flow redirection- Latency and/or jitter injectionShould I go on?
That's a hell load of features for an unmanaged "dumb" switch.

Even switch before firewall? What's a firewall that doesn't need compute science degree or studying random configuration setup steps? Technically every router should act as firewall and block outside requests unless initiated by Lan side first and just use VPN / tailscale to access inside network, otherwise isn't it just unnecessary inconvebience. No?
I bought zywall before and sold it after realizing it's just too complicated for normal person.

I mean I did see a cool issue. A custom kept getting ads redirects. I cleaned the pc, gave it back, they got ads, took again and wiped os re-installed gave back, still ads. Noticed they installed torrents. Wiped again said don't do that. Returned and that night they said they were STILL getting ad redirects. I went to their house and sure enough ad redirects. As scanning pc they are doing normal customer thing and telling me about every pc issue they ever had. I was thinking about other stuff. Suddenly my brain says WAIT SOMETHING IMPORTANT WAS SAID. I said wait what did you say about your TV? It has ads too? I knew what was wrong. I logged into the router (defalt user/PW) and sure enough the DNS was a different country. I changed it back to the ISP and solved.

edit. nothing to do with the switches in this deal. (safe to buy).
