I put hundreds of miles on several pairs of Speedgoat 5s, but everyone I know who wore the same shoe and upgraded to the Speedgoat 6 absolutely hated the way it felt in comparison. Just in case anyone is still rocking 5s and was thinking about this, YMMV.

I can't give you a one-size fits all answer, since no two people have the exact same preferences. Just sharing personal and friends' experiences with the shoe. I personally switched to Altra and now run in their Torin 8s and Lone Peak 9s. One of my friends tried the Topo Terraventure and said it blew the Speedgoat 6 out of the water. As with just about everything in life, your mileage may vary.

funny you mention Altra. I have the Experience Wild right now with about 200 miles on them, and I hate them...I trip over rocks and feel like I'm running with bricks on. I was looking for something more nimble and fast but I read SG6 is terrible compared to SG5. I have heard Topo is good but they have the wide box toe too and I'm afraid it will be the same as my experience with Altra. La Sportiva prodigio pro is supposed to be like SG5 but they're also $250...out of my range for a pair of shoes.

I would recommend the Lone Peaks to you, but if you like the cushioning of Hoka, I would avoid them at all costs; the LPs can be pretty brutal on your feet with how thin the cushioning feels. Upside is that I feel tons more stable on technical trails.
