I have this and just like everyone else will say, it leaks oil. You can fix it, or just drain it afterwards before storing it. That's what I do and it's not that bad. Some dudes spray oil on the blade after each cut, which probably works fine.

Aside from that it's a fantastic saw. Used the heck out of it. Way more power than I anticipated. Perfect for backyard cleanup and the occasional demo. Easy to strip and clear. Would purchase again.

I bought this and didn't even open or try it until after the return period and I can't get it to run. I've tried everything and sometimes it will start with the blade making a couple of revolutions and then just cut out. I'd stay away from this.

Store it on its side, oil cap up.
I've had mine for about 5 years now and it doesn't leak in that orientation.
That said, it looks like they have changed the design slightly since then.

Always leaks oil everywhere. Mine literally works once after I pull back the safety guard / trigger and press the button. Have to remove battery and reinsert if I want to make another cut.

This is the only Dewalt tool I regret buying. First time I used it, I prepped it per instructions and after a very short time cutting some 1 to 1.5 inch diameter brush, I started seeing smoke from the motor.

Leaking oil is only one issue. Mine just stopped running after one moderately hard use and now I have to take the battery in and out each time I want to operate the saw. Some internal switch was triggered that can only be reset by putting the battery in and out. I keep it for junk jobs now, but I bought another saw to replace it. Not typical Dewalt quality.

The same thing happened to me - There is a known trigger switch issue on these. Send it in to DeWalt under warranty - they'll either fix it or send you a brand new saw. They sent me a brand new saw.

Good product, just lay it on its side to avoid leaks, Ive never had a leak from anywhere else other than the cap since it doesn't have a rubber seal. Price is so-so, I paid $100 for it last year and it's been on sale for $119 and $129 since.

I have this saw and agree with the leak issue. It is annoying but something I can deal with. The saw itself is phenomenal for its size. We just had a massive 70' pine tree fall down in our neighborhood. I was able to go through all the branches and some of the smaller trunk at the top like it was nothing, estimating 12-15 inches in diameter.

I Have the Craftsman version and these are great for medium work even removed some large bushes and mulberry trees with this. Recently picked up the EGO 12" and its noticeably more powerful and can handle deeper cuts without overloading. So I'd wait for another sale on the EGO vs this one unless you are committed to Dewalt 20v then its hard to say no. It will be handy

I have the 8" version of this for 98% of my homeowner yard work, and the real-power 14" EGO for the few times I need storm damage work

I always drain the oil after use or place about 6 paper towels underneath where the sprocket is located. All my chainsaws leak oil. They are designed to oil the chain so leaking is normal.
