DWS780: DeWalt takes accuracy seriously with the DWS780. It features the XPS cross-cut positioning system, which casts a shadow that matches the width of the saw blade. This allows for extremely precise cuts without the need for additional adjustments. Not offered on 779
DWS780: This model is slightly heavier than the DWS779. Obviously not as much material in the 779.
DWS780: This model offers a cam-lock miter handle with detents at 10 popular angles for both bevel and miter cuts. It makes switching between common angles a breeze and ensures consistent results. While the DWS779 also has a cam-lock miter handle, it lacks the detents for bevel stops.
DWS780 can cut 16" Horizontal and 14" vertical DWS779 can cut 14" horizontal and 12" vertical
DWS780takes it up a notch with its depth stop. This allows for more controlled trench and dado cuts, which can be incredibly useful for certain woodworking projects. 779 doesn't have depth stop
The DWS780 has an upgraded dust collection system. It's more efficient at capturing sawdust and debris, keeping your workspace cleaner and healthier. The DWS779, on the other hand, still has a good dust collection system, but the DWS780 provides an edge in this department.

This is a great saw. Lots of advanced features in addition to XPS. Much better build than the 779. $400 is the cheapest I have ever seen it.

Was waiting for this DWS780, thanks in for 1! Also, discover CB card has 5% CB on home improvement stores rn so should bring this down to around ~$380.

As far as I know, XPS is the only real difference between the 779 and the 780.

I heard 12" blades have more play/wobble in them. Is it better to go with 10" for more precise cuts? How much extra cutting capacity does the 12" provide?

It's literally the same saw as the 779 except with the addition of the XPS.

Yes 12 in blade could have deflection, compared to a 10 in. It's typically about 2 in more cut capacity. I prefer 10 in miter saw myself due to deflection and have not come across a project I've needed the extra cut capacity as a home diyer

Agreed. I've compared the parts list of the two. Other than the XPS there is one other difference. If I recall correctly, it is the spindle. So it's definitely not a much better build.
