Jailbreak that old Kindle being obsoleted. https://www.zdnet.com/article/you...-its-done/ good step-by-step overview on zdnet referring to the files available for the longest time on Mobiread forums.
That'll get you Kual etc installed, allowing viewing of any ebook file you want to sideload.
Libraries - https://github.com/cyberchicken1231/kLibby open-source Libby alternative for Jailbroken kindles.
Mobiread forums
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/ for further info etc on Kindles and other ereaders.
Boox, etc - why Aren't you all on a fully open ebook reader to begin with?? Eg. Boox runs Android, so you can install and run the Amazon, Kobo, etc ebook apps all at once - even two+ apps in multi-window mode. Buy and read from any store of your choice, load any Android web browser and store, even load and play any music (local or streaming) from any source, watch YouTube videos (in b&w or color depending on the ebook reader screen), etc. Even load Microsoft Office and you can write your own masterpieces for publication. Some even have 4G sim, enabling use as a text or calling device.

It is all over, may 20th they will shut off access to Amazon servers from the older Kindles. That means no Libby as they use Amazon for the book loan.

Ignore the typo in the sub header, but this article has the details. Received emails on both of our Kindles last week.

Not "yet" because the Paperwhite 2021/11th gen is still receiving firmware update so each of them directly from Amazon should already been patched to the latest firmware and thus is not jailbreakable at the time of sale. You can stay in the firmware version and wait for unknown amount of time for the jailbreak release for your firmware. But no one can guarantee how long the wait is. Sometimes is just a few weeks but it could also be a year or so.
For guaranteed jailbreakability you should look for 10th gen or before which stop receiving updates and the latest version is known to be jailbreakable.

Sadly yes for older devices. Anything older than 5th/6th gen is losing access in May. Amazon looked at Google, Apple and Meta and said hold my beer. If it can't be flooded with ads consistently or hidden behind a paywall then they're bricking it.

I picked up signature edition 2021 for about $90 a month ago on woot and the wireless charging is the big difference along with the 32gb storage. I am happy with it.
