Lot's of lying Vine reviews. "I ordered this camera"... no you didn't. Also be aware there is a subscription necessary for this to save videos. Otherwise all you will get is pictures.

How do Vine reviewers get items if not ordering them? Do they just deliver whatever they want to Vine reviewers for them to review?

I'm in Vine. We get to pick items we want, so I consider that ordering. We just don't have to pay.

Vine reviewers have to pay income tax on the inflated, pre-coupon price determined by Amazon. Sometimes this is higher than if you bought the product after discount/coupon.

We do order them. We browse a different "vine page" and browse and search through items just like regular Amazon, when we check out, it shows the cost as $0.00 dollars, then they ship. We definitely browse and pick only the items we want. I couldn't imagine them just sending anything they wanted. The catalog is overwhelmingly random very specific car parts for random vehicles. Got to check it everyday because its constantly changing..

Just a heads up, Vine isn't some free-for-all. Most of the products are low quality, and reviewers still pay taxes based on the listed value. I was in the program last year and left because the inflated valuations were increasing my tax liability, and a lot of what we received wasn't worth keeping. Also, Vine reviewers generally don't have an incentive to leave five-star reviews. If anything, they tend to be more neutral or critical. The real issue is the flood of paid or incentivized five-star reviews from third-party sellers, which are usually pretty easy to spot, but AI is making that more challenging as time goes on.

I don't want to argue, and clearly you have more experience with Vine than me. However, the majority, even for junk, of Vine reviews are positive. In the old days, if you made too many negative reviews, you would get kicked from Vine. Maybe it has changed. Even still, the fact someone is getting something for free (or has to pay tax) still influences their review of the item. I therefore don't put any value on Vine reviews.

So after all this Vine talk, is this worth it for an aspiring bird watcher? Smilie

Sure…
What's the point of Vine then and why would anyone participate if they paid more than retail to try something they didn't really need in the first place?

I want to say no. Get the cheapest Eufy cam instead and put it by a bird feeder. Eufy is a known decent quality cam with no paid subscription and it does recognize animals (to be honest, not sure about birds though) and also motion and you can view that on an app. You could get a Wyze cam but I think nowadays they do require a subscription for video clips? Maybe someone knows other decent brands. I mean, you could risk it. As long as it's sold by Amazon you could return it within 30 days if it's junk.

Thanks. It does look a little plasticy...but the price is decent. I'll probably hold off.
